"But inseminated and inarato there all born;
wheat, barley, vines, leading;
wine in bunches, and they inflate them the rain of Zeus"
Homer

“There all born” - so Ulysses describes the marvels of the Cyclops to the court of the Phaeacians. And those who walked the fields of Gela had that same feeling, the fertile flatlands behind Gela on which the great Greek city had founded its fortune.
Who, then, now, goes back to the land, has good reason to believe, and be a little proud.

After running an engineering company for so many years and then partly buying back some of his family estates, my father decided to start producing important wines in Priolo Sottano where, as a young man, during summers, he used to follow the work in the countryside.

A project that we had decided on together but now I'll have to face alone, relying on my strength and the commitment my father himself would have taken on.
There are memories, there is a passion for the land and above all the will to do well.
The first three labels of our Demarete wines were created in our vineyards, on forty hectares of land, next to the olive groves, and the greenhouses for our table grapes, both white and red, Victory and Blue Magic, along with the peach and apricot orchards.
We are nine kilometers from Gela, northeast, towards Ragusa and just three kilometers from the sea. Excellent climatic conditions to produce quality wine, in particular, Grillo, Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Our goal is to go beyond Sicily and Italy, and market our wines in Europe and West Africa.

TERRITORY

There were three goddesses who shared the sovereignty of Sicily. Kore, the eldest, reigned at the center of the island, a place known for the « beauty of its violets and its many more flowers, worthy of the goddess». In addition to the perennially blooming meadows near Enna he had sanctified Ciane, the spring in Syracuse, in the exact spot where Ade, after kidnapping her, opened the pas-sage back to the Underworld.
Athena was given the area of Imera, on the Tyrrhenian coast, and Artemis the island of Ortigia, and as before, hot and cold springs arose, to emphasize the divine intimacy of the places.
Three, as always, are the goddesses who adorn one of the beautiful altars, dating to the fourth century BC, discovered right in Gela at the bottom of the acropolis, in Bosco Littorio.
Demeter, Kore and Aphrodite are represented; they are the goddesses linked to the birth of agricul-ture, and love, united in a female cult, inspired by the vitality of the earth, to the natural cycles and the transition from childhood to adulthood.
Everything is touched by the cult of Magna Mater, the Mothers who supposedly gave birth to both the Sicanis and the Rhodium-Cretans. Probably, the devotion to the nymphs who welcomed Zeus on Mount Ida, mixed, at the time of Greek colonization, with indigenous religious practices that had as its focus point springs, rivers and forests.

The affection for these gods saved the peace of the city in an episode, narrated by Herodotus, when Teline showed the rebels the insignias of the goddesses and thanks to them and to their charm, brought peace back to Gela. His descendants, including the great Gelon continued to carry the hereditary role of hierophants, great priests.
With the passage of time, the powers of these ancient female figures, propitiatory and lords of life, have been transferred to another Mother, the Virgin Mary; there where before stood sanctuaries dedicated to Demeter.
This is the case of the Virgin Mary of Bitalemi, honored in a tiny chapel and the Virgin Mary of Alemanna, whose icon is kept in the Cathedral Church of Gela.

CAVALIERE

Wine is always a portrait of a place, its mysterious essence, but this Nero d'Avola is also and above all the portrait of a man, a daughter’s dedication to her father. A tannic wine, with its attractive aromas of red fruits, immediately perceptible to the nose, embod-ies a nice softness. Its spicy note calls to mind black pepper. For its ruby color, you could define it as a cloaked and velvety wine.

The road crosses the countryside, going towards the hills, and then down the valley, where we come upon fields and Grandpa’s house. To get there you need to get to the middle arch under a high bridge. The tale of Fabula begins here, in a familiar landscape, a valley filled with memories, and vineyards in blossom again. This Red Doc is the result of a blend of international grapes, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A warm and measured wine without excesses, and with the elegant personality of notes of peppers, tomato leaf and red berries. Its beautiful red color tends to close in an embracing depth.

Auspice means being able to read favorable omens in the flight of birds, use the sky as a book. Even the music of crickets can speak to the heart. A song that the land translates into wine. A paw, laying on the “pentagram” and drawing a musical note, suggests the wonderful harmony Grillo grapes have always had. This wine is ready to drink, fresh and lively, with good acidity, yet ever so elegant. In using a very gentle press one immediately notices the aromas of orange blossom and rose being given off, and its transparent color is reminiscent of the shade of yellow of a sheaf of wheat.
